
What is a Tester perfumes?
Perfumes packaged in tester packaging are the same product as the fragrance packed in the retail packaging. They are designed for retail store counters to enable a customer to try the perfume on their skin before purchasing. Because perfumes perform differently on different people it is recommend a perfume be tested on the skin over a day. To ensure a tester perfume is an accurate reflection of the product a customer may potential purchase the tester perfume must match the product in retail packaging. It must be must be fresh, authentic and 100% the same as the retail packaged version.
Product packaging represents a significant proportion of production costs. Testers plain, no frills packaging costs less then the retail packaging. These reduced production costs can then be reflected in the price of the tester. Many tester are marked tester and not sealed in plastic. Some even do not included a cap as shown below.
Whilst many testers are marked "Not for Sale" this labeling is for the retail store use. Similar to that shown on electronic products and white goods where the words " Display Model" are shown. It clearly identify to customers and staff this particular product is a tester and not an item a customer can purchase.
